Many, if not all iOS users have heard about or used a jailbreak in their iOS lifetimes. The more astute jailbreakers will also notice that it seems to be getting harder and harder to find exploits for untethered jailbreaks, bringing into question future jailbreaks in general.
Alas, that has changed recently with the creation of “evad3rs“, the combination of famous jailbreak tweak developers @pod2g, @planetbeing, @musclenerd and @pimskeks. With a Twitter account with over 45,000 followers and no tweets yet, all eyes are on them for the release of the untethered 6.1 jailbreak tweak, something that pod2g has confirmed is in existence in the past couple of days, even daring Apple to release their final 6.1 software update.
iOS 6.1 is now available and potential jailbreakers were cautious at first – what if Apple had managed to patch the vulnerability in this last tweak of 6.1? Soon after MuscleNerd confirmed that iOS 6.1 is safe to update to, and that the following devices qualify;
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPad 2
- iPad 3
- iPad 4
- iPad mini
- iPod touch 4th gen
- iPod touch 5th gen
- Apple TV
- Apple TV 2nd gen
The question now is when? There is no date set, but MuscleNerd has teased us with the following tweet;
