Namco Bandai Games has today announced that the PS3 RPG, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has shipped a total of 1.1 million units worldwide since its release in January 2013. It goes on to say that the Ni no Kuni franchise (including the Japan only DS version) has shipped more that 1.7 million units. while this is an enormous achievement for an amazing game, its worth noting the word ‘shipped’ which indicates that they have sold these copies to retailers and it doesn’t necessarily reflect the ‘sold through’ figure which is the number of actual copies sold to end users, I’ve asked Namco Bandai if they could clarify this and will update this story if I get a response.
Ni no Kuni follows the story of Oliver as he journeys to an all new land in order to save his mother. The story is heartfelt and masterfully told and the game is backed up by a phenomenal battle system. Since it’s release it has rose to critical acclaim, receiving 69 awards and 145 nominations including a nomination for a British Academy of Film and Television Award.
Ni no Kuni should in any PS3 owner’s collection, I am aiming to get all the trophies as part of my 2014 Platinum list that I will be unveiling soon – it’s my attempt to vanquish my ever growing gaming pile of shame.
