For those of you that have been reading this blog for a while, you may remember when I covered MendMyi – my favourite third-party iOS device repair company. My favourite part of MendMyi’s work is their Colour Lab – what better way to personalise your phone than to change the colour of it without needing to use a case? Well, they’re now one of two companies in the WORLD that anodises iPhone 5 housing in-house – which is crazy when you think about it. So of course I met up with Riki, the guy behind MendMyi and he agreed to anodise my iPhone; here’s my review of the product and the service.
MendMyi are very proud of the quality of the repairs and the service that they give their customers – they understand what it’s like to have a broken iPhone, so they make the repair process as easy as possible for you. The same applies with their Colour Lab; who wants to be without their iPhone in this day and age? Even if it is to make your iPhone look gorgeous. They’ve got you covered – when you send off your iPhone to be ColourLab’d, you can be given a courtesy iPhone 4/4s for the duration (which is supposed to be up to 10 working days but I got mine back in 3) for only £25.
The communication with the company whilst they had my phone was second to none – I can’t think of anything worse than sending your most beloved possession (for many people) to a company and then hear nothing from them for days on end; you start to get a bit anxious. With MendMyi’s amazing feedback from customers (including celebrities and musicians) you know you’re getting a good service and an amazing quality product.
When I got my iPhone back, I was genuinely lost for words. It looks and feels like something that could’ve come straight out of Jonny Ive’s design studio in Cupertino. The finish is sleek and feels like a premium product – you know you’re holding something amazing in your hand. As well as that, prepare to be stopped by strangers asking where you got your iPhone from (even in London where everyone hates one another!) because it really does catch your eye. The thing I was most surprised about was the Apple logo – they manage to keep it a slightly different shade of whatever colour you choose, just like on the original iPhone 5 design.
Not a fan of Gold and Black like I am? Well there are many colours available from the Colour Lab service including red, royal blue, baby blue, green, purple and pink! You can preview what your iPhone would look like via their Colour Lab segment on their website. It’s fun to create your own personal colour design – you really do stand out from the crowd (and it’s always a good talking point in social situations!).
Overall, I don’t think I could recommend MendMyi enough for any repair or customisation for your iOS devices. Their customer service is second to none and their products/repairs are always at a standard which I think are very similar to that of Apple. Interested in customising your iPhone 5 with the Colour Lab? It’ll cost you £96 and you can head over to the site by clicking here. Not got an iPhone 5? Don’t worry, they do it for the iPhone 4/4s and iPad 2/3 too! If you’ve got any questions just head over to the MendMyi Twitter and they’ll be glad to assist you.
