Leap Motion shipping date announced!

After my report yesterday about developers that create Mac apps such as Clear are gearing up to integrate Leap Motion to their apps, the company has today announced its shipping date for all preorders – 13th May 2013. It’ll also be available for purchase over the counter in all Best Buy stores in the US from the 19th May 2013; no word yet on whether there will be a valid UK reseller – imagine being able to walk into Tescos, looking for horse meat and end up walking out with a Leap Motion. Poetry in motion.

“We’re honored and humbled that hundreds of thousands of people have joined Leap Motion’s global community of developers, pre-order consumers and business partners,” said Leap Motion co-founder and CEO Michael Buckwald. “We know people have been eagerly waiting, and today I’m happy to announce we’re bringing the Leap Motion Controller to the world less than a year after we introduced our technology. We’re taking the time needed to provide an incredible user experience and robust ecosystem of applications for consumers to explore the new power and magic Leap Motion brings to computing.”

The Leap Motion Controller will support operating system interactions with Windows 7 and 8, and Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8. It will also come with AirSpace, the Leap Motions equivalent to the App Store where you’ll be able to grab all the games and apps that are made by developers for the Leap Motion device.

Leap Motion have been working around the world with both leading developers and independent developers to bring you a wide array of apps, both well known and completely new. Some  apps that will have Leap Motion support from day 1 include;

  • Autodesk
  • Corel’s Painter apps
  • Disney Interactive’s Wreck-It Ralph: Sugar Rush Speedway racing game
  • Dischord; The Weather Channel app
  • ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope

Leap Motion are still looking for developers to join their program to create new apps and uses for the Leap Motion device.

Leap Motion devices are still available for preorder and you won’t be charged until your device ships. Interested? Head to LeapMotion.com and preorder yours now! Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on it and call myself Tony Stark whilst operating my iMac.
