Earth to World of Warcraft fans, may we have your attention please. Stay away from the pretend girlfriend and put the star trek box set down. World of Warcraft is back and now reinvented as a collectible card game for pc’s, Macs & Apple tablets.
Blizzard, the company behind World of Warcraft have now unveiled their new video game called Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, the duelling game is based around cards players gather. It is currently going through the company’s internal testing and is planned to be released before the end of 2013. The game is free to play but like most console/online games progression/advancement through the game is a lot faster by buying cards on their store.
Keen players of Warcraft will be instantly familiar with this new game as it is based around characters, spells and artefacts from the Warcraft universe. This move keeps current fans happy but may attract a new audience due to the card playing nature. The simplicity of the game is also the genius part of it. New users of Warcraft or people with no experience of card games are not at a disadvantage. The game teaches people how to play as they go so if you have no experience or you are already an expert of the universe then it is built for all to enjoy.
This marks Blizzard’s first free-to-play title, something the company has wanted to try for a while, chief creative officer Rob Pardo told Ars Technica. “But [Blizzard] wanted to focus on making a trading card game that’s more accessible and “not just something that us hardcore nerds would play.”
Packs of 5 cards will cost $1 (60p) each. Gamers can test the beta version online through their battle.net account. Check out the official trailer below!
